Very nice write-up. Good pictures too. Thank you for your effort.
This ride is enjoyable because of all the trees providing shade. A few weeks ago on a hot day my road bike's front tube melted and blew from the heat of breaking - rough road at the end.
A couple of years ago on a mountain bike I rode to the four corners and came down on the Harding Truck Trail into Modjesca Canyon. Good ride. Further up there are no trees, no shade, pick a cool day.

Glad you enjoyed the ride Rowan! Silverado is a somewhat overlooked gem of a climb in that area. And yes, that last mile is killer. You can be proud to have conquered the climb.

Good advice on the creek crossings. They are usually not too bad, but steady through is the key. Any significant braking and you will probably slide out.

Cheers!

Thanks for the post, this ride rocked! It was a bit tougher than I thought, but only really on the last mile where things got v steep and the legs were turning to jelly. Watch out for the creek crossings as they can be a little bit slippery. Keep your front wheel straight, stay back on the bike and keep off the brakes. Happy climbing!

Thank you for posting this ride. I did it this morning and it was incredible! I had no idea that all that eixsted up there. I can't believe you guys did the dirt part with road bike! The Maple Road part was rough enough for my blood! I think from my home in Irvine I did 42 miles and it took something like 3 hours. I even rescued a 6-foot gopher snake who was sunning himself in the middle of the road! I picked him up and placed him safely in the brush on the side of the road. Awesome climb and I will be doing it again! Thanks for the info!
